Facebook Fast

That’s it! No more Facebook.

I’m going on a Facebook Fast for at least a week.

I used to LOVE playing around on Facebook. Checking out what my “friends” are doing. What Jason is writing. What videos Lorrie has put up. Ali’s supportive comments and messages. Chatting with Mark every now and then.

For me, it was like having a vitual office full of really cool people where I could take a break from my work and go check in with someone, just to say, “hey!” and see what they are up to. It made me feel less lonely and isolated. Hey, I love working at home, but it can feel a little isolating at times. Especially for someone like me who loves interacting with people.

But now I’m finding Facebook oppressive and, at times, way too time consuming. I’m starting to care more about what other people are doing than what I’m doing! Or should be doing. And I’ve become disconnected from what’s really important to me.

For instance, this blog. I haven’t posted anything here for months. Now, it’s true, I was in the process of moving this blog from Typepad to Wordpress. And that slowed down my blogging momentum a bit. But that’s not the real reason. I’ve just been tied up in other things. Including playing around on Facebook and Twitter and other social networking stuff.

So, here I go! A Facebook Fast for a WHOLE WEEK! Can I do it? Will I make it?

I’ll let you know.

So is this what you meant with your recent FB status update that you were “…letting go. Finally”? That seemed sort of a random, non-contextual update… what’s going on with the wonderfully talented Nancy Tierney? See you at the Lomi Center gig, if not before!
