31 Days of Experiencing New Things – Day 3 & 4

Yesterday, I cheated.

I was so worn out from experiencing new things on Saturday, that yesterday, Sunday, I rested. A lot. I figured that since I experienced more than two new things on Saturday, I could claim one of them as my Sunday new experience.

Saturday night, I went to the Bearsville Theater (I just realized that there are a lot of “bears” showing up in my new experiences. And turtles) to hear a band I’d never heard before: Media. They were amazing, different, entrancing. I fell madly in love with the drummer, Zachery Alford, whose drumming brought me cry to tears at one point… in a good way. There was something so locked in, so alive, so connected about the way he played. Strong, without being showy.

Before the show, my bon vivant and I had some time to kill so we walked over to the Little Bear Cafe (see, another BEAR!), not to be confused with the Bear Cafe, which is nearby. The Little Bear was not only a new experience, it was pretty crappy one as well. Bad wine, horrible service, and a nasty host.

We still had more time to kill, so I initiated yet another new experience, but due to the sacred nature of the experience, I really can’t talk about here.

So there! Lots of new experiences on Saturday, which allowed me to take Sunday off.

But today is Monday. It’s a holiday, July 5, and my new experience was going to see Iron Man II with the always wonderful Robert Downey Jr. It was great! I loved the first Iron Man, and this sequel was as good. Not only was the movie a new experience but so was the theatre. I’d never been to the Regal Cinemas in Kingston before, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. They were so clean and comfortable. I hope they stay that way.

So far, I’m kicking ass at this 31 Days of Experiencing New Things! And I’m liking it!

What will tomorrow bring?

Whew! Two new things in one day! I am glad you skipped a day and got the math right!

By the way, as a confirmed word torturer on my own personal blog, i can’t believe I have the nerve to mention this, but here goes: Shouldn’t bon vivant be italicized?

Why should bon vivant be italicized? Would you italicize the terms lover or partner or friend? Oh, you mean because it’s a foreign term? Well, not anymore, baby!

Okay, here’s Day Three ~ Carrie Underwood concert at Summerfest Music Festival in Milwaukee with my daughter. It was our first concert together. The most fantastic part about it, besides having the adventure with her, was that she took the reins on the whole experience and made the entire day easy and effortless for me. She also insisted on spontaneity, which brought many small but significant moments throughout our time in Milwaukee. Carrie’s performance was stellar. The opening act was also a new experience. I’d never heard of Sons of Sylvia but I’m a fan now. They are fantastic musicians, and the lead vocals of Ashley Clark made me melt in my seat (90ยบ heat notwithstanding). And, an unexpected new experience that resulted from our trip, it was the first time since childhood that I didn’t see a fireworks show on July 4. We expected to see fireworks when the concert ended but because it was late and we had a two-hour drive, we didn’t stick around to see if it would happen.

Day Four was laid back because we didn’t get back from Milwaukee until one in the morning. But, last night after I turned the lights out, the new experience came. As I burrowed into my pillows, I started to feel some pain and discomfort in my shoulder, and I couldn’t figure out what I’d done to cause that. It seemed to be getting worse by the minute. There wasn’t one position that I laid in that was comfortable. I knew that I’d have to do something to alleviate the pain or I’d never get to sleep. Three tabs of ibuprofen (which is nothing new) and a session of EFT (the new part) ended the discomfort and 30 minutes later, I was fast asleep. This morning, I’m completely normal. Well, not completely normal but pain-free.

I’m looking forward to what this day will bring.

Wow, Carrie Underwood! That must have been a blast! And I gotta get me some of the EFT!
